Annual Meeting 2014 - Pinehurst
The 25th annual meeting was held in Pinehurst from October 31st to Tuesday November 4. Festivities started on Friday evening by visiting a hidden gem that is the Tufts Archives. Archivist Audrey Moriarty was a wonderful host and everyone had a great dinner while talking about golf and making new friends. Audrey thanked Society members for their financial support, and later explained how the Ross records have been digitally archived to modern standards. The walls of the archives room are also currently decorated with an enormous collection of pin flags from Ross courses. It was very easy to reminisce about past rounds and talk about where you dream to play.
Saturday was a cold wet rainy day at Southern Pines and only a few completed play at this great track. We hope anyone who visits Pinehurst would stop and play Southern Pines. Mid Pines on Sunday was sunny and cold and all enjoyed the newly renovated course. The weather continued to improve and members played at the Dormie Club and Pine Needles on Monday and Tuesday. It was four great courses in a row.
The Society dinner at the Mid Pines Hotel included a presentation by Society member Bill Case. His interesting new book, ‘Golf in Columbus at Wyandot Country Club
’ has been published by The History Press of Charleston South Carolina. Bill authored a fine history of this Ross course that no longer exists. You can read Chapter 3 via this link.
The dinner also included a viewing of excerpts from the new Ross documentary film produced by Cob Carlson.
Click on the title "Donald Ross: Discovering the Legend." to reach the film's web site. You can read more about the documentary, view movie trailers, and find details for ordering a DVD. The film's DVD was the tee gift for the Pinehurst event.
