2016 grants

Tufts Archives - Pinehurst

The DRS Foundation made a $10,000 donation to the Tufts Archives in April 2016. The membership continues to support the Tufts Archives efforts to collect, preserve, and disseminate the records and drawings of Donald J. Ross.

Ross course - Warm Springs Georgia

Thanks to the generous Society membership, the DRS Foundation made a $5,000 donation to Operation Double Eagle (The Warrior Alliance, Inc.) in February 2016. The donation will support the work by this non-profit veterans organization at the Ross course in Warm Springs.

Also recently, the Foundation supported in 2014 the local organization improving the municipal Bobby Jones Golf Course in Sarasota with a donation of $5,000.

The Foundation also supported in 2014 the fabulous Ross documentary produced by Society member Cob Carlson.

The Foundation has financially supported projects such as bunker restoration at the Wilmington Municipal in Wilmington, North Carolina, and has twice supported supported for the local organization promoting the municipal George Wright Golf Course.

Since 1998 the Foundation and the Ross Society have donated over $ 140,000 in support of the Tufts Archives housed at the Given Memorial Library in Pinehurst. These donations help to continue the preservation and dissemination of original Ross documents that are vital resources for Clubs that are pursuing restoration work.  The Foundation has supported the Tufts Archives with annual donations since 2002.

While some income for the trust continues to be the distributions from the Donald Ross Society itself, individual contributions to the Foundation are essential to maintain this status. With this in mind the Donald Ross Society Foundation is calling for contributions. Additionally, when the Society holds a golf outing, a portion of the collected entry fee is set aside to build the Foundation Trust. For this reason, entry fees are made payable to the Foundation, and are partially tax deductible.  The Society usually has two to four gatherings and events a year in support of the Foundation.

Tufts Archives at Pinhurst, NC

We intend to use the money to continue working with Municipal Ross courses, many of which are in dire need of attention. We hope that by initiating Architectural review, we can arouse interest among the municipalities to restore the wonderful Ross works that they operate. We hope that we have the same effect as we did at Wilmington where a $7,000.00 donation spurred the City into investing $ 180,000.00 to restore the bunkers. Of course, we also feel obligated to continue our support for the Tufts Archives in Pinehurst.

With this in mind, we urge our members to contribute to our Foundation.
