The Foundation’s activities and assets are used to commemorate the life and work of Donald J. Ross, educating the public as to his work, and promoting the preservation and restoration of the golf courses he designed.
Since 1998 the Foundation and the Ross Society have donated over $ 140,000 in support of the Tufts Archives housed at the Given Memorial Library in Pinehurst to help continue the preservation and dissemination of original Ross documents that are vital resources for Clubs that are pursuing restoration work. The Foundation has financially supported projects such as bunker restoration at the Wilmington Municipal in Wilmington, North Carolina, support for the local golf club promoting the municipal George Wright Golf Course, support of a local organization improving the municipal Bobby Jones Golf Course in Sarasota, support for the fabulous 2014 Ross documentary produced by Cob Carlson, and support of the First Tee in Knoxville, Tennessee.
We intend to use the money to continue working with Municipal Ross courses, many of which are in dire need of attention. We hope that by initiating Architectural review, we can arouse interest among the municipalities to restore the wonderful Ross works that they operate. We hope that we have the same effect as we did at Wilmington where a $7,000.00 donation spurred the City into investing $ 180,000.00 to restore the bunkers.
Of course, we also feel obligated to continue our support for the Tufts Archives in Pinehurst, the prime benefactor of the Ross Society and the Foundation.
