"More than seven months after Cumberland County Commissioners voted against moving E.E. Smith High School to Stryker Golf Course on Fort Bragg, post officials are considering other options for the land. The 18-hole Donald Ross-designed golf course opened in 1946 and sits outside of Fort Bragg’s gates at the end of Bragg Boulevard, across from the Fort Bragg Fairgrounds."

"Fay will receive the Donald Ross Award at the ASGCA Annual Meeting in Cape Cod, Mass., on Oct. 27. His influence continues to shape public golf, with Bethpage Black set to host the 2025 Ryder Cup. The recognition underscores the importance of accessibility in the game’s future, according to the ASGCA."
"During the so-called “Golden Age of Golf Design” that occurred roughly between the two world wars, it was evident that Ross prevailed when it came to championship venues. Between 1919 and 1931, eight of 13 U.S. Opens took place on courses he designed. A quick look at the championship ledger of the last century confirms the ubiquity of his work."

The two discuss: Gil's preference to leave any Open Doctor titles with the Jones family, what attracted Gil to the business, his recent work at Oakmont Country Club and his insights as to how the course will play at this year's US Open, his work on elite venues prior to the hosting of a major is mostly about restoring the course back to its original design, can today's top courses continue to host majors without a dial back in distance, the history behind and current state of golf course tree removal programs, the serious challenges facing seaside golf courses, restoring century old greens to play at current day championship conditions, what makes Augusta National so special and Gil's idea of how long a modern course should be to host major tournaments going forward.

"Much like The Ocean Course, Mid Pines in Southern Pines, North Carolina, is difficult for everyone. Yet, average golfers can also enjoy it. Why? Two words: Donald Ross. Simply put, Ross created a layout that will challenge all golfers and lead them to become more creative shot makers...This list simply wouldn’t be complete without featuring Pinehurst No. 2 in Pinehurst, North Carolina, arguably the both states’ most renowned and respected course. If you’re seeking a true test — of your ball striking and short game, in particular — look no further than this Donald Ross design."

"Hutton tapped famed Scottish golf-course architect Donald Ross for Seminole. Ross had designed Hutton’s mini course at Mar-a-Lago, but more importantly, he’d conceived numerous nameplate courses in the country — from famed Pinehurst in North Carolina to Oakland Hills in Michigan and Scioto Country Club in Ohio. He also designed the original course at Palm Beach Country Club. Once Seminole debuted on Jan. 1, 1930, it received gushing kudos for the challenging golf course by Ross, and for the clubhouse."

"In 1944, the PGA of America moved its headquarters from Chicago and renamed the course PGA National Golf Club — leasing it from the city. Eventually, the PGA moved out, but the site hosted 18 consecutive Senior PGA Championships — as well as the original PGA Merchandise Show in 1954."

"A test of accuracy, creativity and mental fortitude, Mid Pines Inn and Golf Club's Donald Ross designed course will eat your lunch and you'll thank it for doing so. Golf course architect Kyle Franz was fresh off restoring Pinehurst No. 2 with Coore & Crenshaw for the U.S. Open when Kelly Miller, president and CEO of Pine Needles Lodge and Golf Club, met Franz to talk about Pine Needles' sister course, Mid Pines. The rest is history."
